Diary of Armageddon: Day Three

Writer's picture: AnnaAnna

Do you ever look forward to something so much that you feel a sense a depression when it's close to being over? Well, that's how I felt waking up on the last day of the Wellington Armageddon Expo.

I had to drag my trolley suitcase with me today, unfortunately, since I had a flight that afternoon but I wasn’t too much of a hindrance as I was at panels for most of the day. However, I do apologise to anyone’s feet that I may have run over with it. Sorry.

The first panel on the main stage was the legendary Kim Rhodes. The woman is amazing and is now my idol. She pulls no punches and certainly doesn’t hold back as she tested the microphone by literally yelling the F word into it (much to crowds pleasure). Not only that, but she has a crush on David Tennant (as evident by the cutest nerd face she pulled when asked who she would love to work with). She spoke about her great love of Supernatural and the cast as well some of the pranks Jensen and Jared pulled on her on-set. She also talked briefly about the spin-off pilot Wayward Sisters (which I am yet to see) and her hope of it being picked up for a series (please please please please let this happen tv gods).

Next up was The 100 panel with Chelsey Reist and Christopher Larkin. I have never seen this show (or heard much about it) but I was curious and stayed to watch. These two were too cute and the show sounds quite interesting so I might give it watch. Has anyone seen it? What did you think?

And last, but certainly not least, was Jeremy Renner’s last appearance at the panel. I changed seat slightly to get a closer view and took out all my cameras so I could make the most out of this moment. Again, his hair was on point and his fashion sense is impeccable with his cool leather jacket.

One of the most seriously cutest moments ever was when a little five year old boy asked him who his best friend was on Avengers to which Jeremy replied ‘everyone’.

He spoke of this work on Wild River, as well as the Hurt Locker and how good his archery skills really are (which are okay apparently).

It’s funny, but after going to these expos I always come back with a list of new programs and movies I want to watch, as well as new fandoms to join. These include:

  • Z Nation

  • iZombie

  • The 100

Is there anything you recommend?

I tried my best to buy a piece of stuff from each of my favourite fandoms. These included:

Harry Potter - 3D picture

Supernatural - t-shirt and necklace

Walking Dead - t-shirt, Daryl Pop vinyl

Marvel - t-shirt(s) and bracelet

Star Wars - t-shirt

Studio Ghibli - Totoro socks and necklace, Spirited Away DVD

As well as soft toy cat and a Beagle Pop Vinyl (which is the closest I will get to owning a real one for a while).

So yeah, I spent a lot of money (more than I had planned to, but I wanted to make the most of it since I don’t get too much opportunity to and I deserved it - in my own mind anyway), and I realised that could probably do with an even bigger suitcase when I go to the next expo.

I am still super sad that it’s over, but I have many terrific memories, photos and new friends from it to keep me going to the next expo I attend (which probably won't be till October in Auckland - which I am already planning and budgeting for).

A massive thank you to ALL the Armageddon crew and attendees for yet another amazing event - you guys go over and beyond everytime and I can’t wait to see what Auckland has in store.
