there is another reboot coming!
Yes, yet ANOTHER reboot. Why oh why can’t they come up with anything original these days.
When I first saw the headline that they were remaking Greatest American Hero, I just rolled my eyes (see the article here). Why? Oh, and they are rumours of a remakes of Magnum PI, Charmed and Murphy Brown!
The original series (which ran from 1981-1986) starred William Katt as a well-mannered teacher who is visited by aliens in the desert and given a special suit to fight injustice and crime - then haphazardly loses the instruction manual resulting in a lot of chaos.
I loved the original (and it’s theme song, which has been stuck in my head all day)! It was quirky, crazy, light-hearted and kinda cheesy. His flying skills however did need a lot of work - especially the landings (but I would probably be the same to be honest) - but that is what made this series so memorable.
Yes this new reboot will have a woman as the lead role (Hannah Simone from The New Girl), but they had already thought of doing that back in 1986 (The Greatest American Heroine) and it was rejected so I am not entirely sure how successful this show will be.
Here are couple cool facts about William Katt:
He played Tommy Ross, the ill-fated prom date from the original Carrie movie.
He auditioned to play Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The New Hope and was seriously considered for the role - which (as we all now know) when to Mark Hamill.
