Becoming Lara Croft: The Workout

As I have mentioned in previous blogs I am planning on cosplaying as Lara Croft for this years Auckland Armageddon Expo, and as part of this preparation (and transformation) I am planning on undertaking some of the same workout program that Alicia did to become the character herself.

If you have seen the movie, you would have seen just how ‘jacked’ Alicia is in the role and reading up on how she prepared has inspired me to try it myself.

Alicia undertook a gruelling 7 months programme with world-renowned trainer Magnus Lygdback (who is also training Gal Gadot for Wonder Woman II, and Alexander Skasgard for The Legend of Hercules) which included weight training (training two body parts a day), combined with movement training (which including rock climbing and mixed martial arts) to obtain the desired lean, athletic, and ripped body of Croft (resulting in 12 added pounds of lean muscle).

I am not sure about the mixed martial arts stuff, but I definitely keen on the weight training and rock climbing so bring it on!

Here is a brief outline of the workout (credit: mensjournal.com):

Day One: Legs

Deadlifts: 4 sets, 12 reps

Front Squats 4 sets, 12 reps

Leg Press: 5 sets, 12 reps

Lunge (with weights): 3 sets, 20 reps

Skate Jumps: 4 sets, 30 reps

Day Two: Chest and Shoulders

Chest Press: 4 sets, 12 reps

Push-Ups (on dumbbells): 4 sets, max reps

Push-Ups (on bench): 3 sets, max reps

Machine Flys: 4 sets, 15 reps

Day Three: Back and Shoulders

Machine Pulldowns: 4 sets, 12 reps or Pull-Ups: 5 sets, max reps

Standing Row (with Olympic bar): 4 sets, 12 reps

Straight-Arm Pulldowns: 4 sets, 12 reps

Windmill (with dumbbell rotation): 4 sets, 20 reps

Lateral Raises: 5 sets, 15 reps

Day Four: Biceps and Triceps

Alternating Biceps Curls: 4 sets, 16 reps

Tricep French Press: 4 sets, 12 reps

Biceps Curl (with bar): 4 sets, 12 reps

Superset Bicep Curls: 4 sets, 12 reps (into)

Tricep Pushdown: 4 sets, 12 reps

If you too want to see for yourself how Vikander got into such excellent shape - and want to follow in her footsteps with me, be sure to check out Lygdbak’s Instagram as he has posted short videos of the Tomb Raider workout.

I still have about 6 months till the expo, so here is hoping I get somewhat close to looking like Lara (I will keep you all updated).

I will posting another vlog next week on how my outfit is coming along.

Wish me luck

Anna :-)
