Fallout 76

Bethesda dropped a trailer for their new Fallout game last week - and, much to the surprise of many, it was not a re-mastered edition of Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas, rather it is an entirely new game: Fallout 76.

Although not much has been revealed about the actual game or game play there has been speculation that the game could be similar to survival games such as Day Z or Rust. There are even rumours that it could be an online survival RPG which would be interesting.

Bethesda Teasing Fallout 76

From what we can tell in the trailer, the game is actually set not long after the initial war - approximately 25-26 years if the Pipboy date is correct. So, well before the creation of the solid centres of Megaton from Fallout 3 or Diamond City from Fallout 4. Does this mean that we could be part of the original builders? The trailer does mention Reclamation Day and, according to sources, Vault 76 was a control vault meaning that there were no experiments done on the inhabitants.

Because it’s not that long after the initial devastation from the bombs there will still be many of the original military and law enforcements around - does this mean we might see some formation of the factions we’ve met along our journeys?

Although we haven’t been given much information the inclusion of John Denver’s “Country Roads” hints at West Virginia as the location of the vault but until E3 we can only go on the small amount of rumours and the information we can glean from the trailer.

In previous games we’ve guided our character from vault to vault, mission to mission, but with it still being early days there is no knowing what we might actually encounter. Will there be early stage feral ghouls? Could we actually meet some of the ghouls from other games before they’ve established themselves in places like The Slog or Good Neighbour? It would be interesting to have some nods to family names or characters that we’ve already met in previous games.

Though one thing is for sure, there will be no super mutants unless there is a huge retcon.

I’m really not sure what to expect from this game but I am hopeful that it will bring some new life into the Fallout lore. Personally, I would love to see a survival horror aspect to the game but I tend to enjoy those kinds of games.

What do you expect from Fallout 76?

What would you like to see happen?

What frustrated you most about previous games?

Leave your theories in a comment below. I have to go, I think Preston Garvey has another quest for me...
